Uroflowmetry

A simple, painless measurement of your urine flow — at the Baddi center. The first-line test for prostate and urinary complaints.

What Is Uroflowmetry?

Your urine flow, measured and charted

You simply urinate into a special device that measures the rate, volume and pattern of flow — producing a chart that tells the urologist how well your bladder and prostate are working.

It's the standard first test for difficulty passing urine, weak stream, dribbling, frequent urination and prostate enlargement — common concerns in men over 50, and relevant after prostate surgery and in some neurological conditions. Women with urinary symptoms may also need this test — it is not only for men.

The test is completely painless and takes only minutes. Drink about 500 ml of water an hour before and come when you feel a normal, comfortable urge — we need you to pass at least 150 ml for the test to be valid. Don't wait until you are painfully full, and don't pass urine just before you arrive. If the volume is too small we will ask you to drink more and repeat it.

A post-void residual (PVR) ultrasound is done immediately after the flow to check how much urine remains — it is usually included with the test.

Consultation at Hope Diagnostics Baddi

Before the test

Drink normally and come with a comfortably full bladder. Tell us about prostate medicines — the urologist may want the test before or after them.

During the test

You urinate privately into the flow meter, exactly as you normally would. That's it — the device charts the flow automatically.

Afterwards

Nothing to do. The flow chart goes with your report to the urologist, often combined with an ultrasound for prostate size and bladder residue.
