CT Scan Preparation
CT scans at Baddi, Nalagarh and Nohar (Hitachi Eclos 8) are quick — but a little preparation makes the contrast phase smoother and the images sharper.
Your pre-scan checklist
- Plain CT (no contrast) — no fasting needed. Come comfortably; remove metal jewellery in the area being scanned.
- Contrast CT — usually fast 4–6 hours. Keep drinking plain water during the fast. For an abdominal CT you may also be asked to drink a contrast solution before the scan.
- Tell us about — kidney disease, diabetes (metformin), asthma, thyroid problems, pregnancy, or any past reaction to contrast dye. This decides whether and how we use contrast.
- Carry — your prescription and previous CT/MRI CDs or films for comparison.
During the scan
You lie on the table, which moves through the ring — the scan itself takes 5–10 minutes. You'll hear soft humming. Stay still and follow the technician's breathing instructions.
Contrast injection
Contrast is injected via an IV line; you may feel warmth or a metallic taste for a minute — completely normal. Iodinated contrast is well tolerated by the large majority of patients; mild reactions (warmth, metallic taste, nausea, itching) are common and settle. Serious allergic reactions are rare but possible, which is why we screen you first and keep you under observation during and after the injection. The technician monitors you throughout.
After the scan
Drink plenty of water to flush the contrast. You can eat and resume normal activity right away. Reports are usually ready within 2–4 hours (same day for most scans).
