Interventions (FNAC & Biopsy)

Ultrasound-guided procedures — FNAC, biopsy, aspirations and drainages — done precisely and safely at Baddi, Nalagarh and Pinjore.

What Are Image-Guided Interventions?

A needle, guided by ultrasound, in the right spot

When a lump or fluid needs sampling, ultrasound shows the radiologist exactly where the needle must go — in real time. That makes the procedure safer, quicker and more accurate than sampling without imaging, especially for small or deep lesions.

  • FNAC — fine needle aspiration of thyroid nodules, breast lumps, lymph nodes and cysts
  • Core biopsy — a small tissue core for histopathology
  • Aspiration & drainage — cysts, abscesses and fluid collections

A local anaesthetic is used before most procedures, so discomfort is minimal. Most take 15–30 minutes, and samples go straight to our in-house pathology lab.

Procedure consultation at Hope Diagnostics

Before the procedure

Bring a recent CBC and PT/INR for core biopsies. If you take aspirin, clopidogrel, warfarin or a newer blood thinner, tell us at booking — your doctor will tell you how many days to stop it, if it can be stopped at all. Never stop a blood thinner on your own. Most procedures need no fasting.

During the procedure

You lie comfortably; the area is cleaned and numbed; the radiologist guides the needle under live ultrasound. You may feel brief pressure.

Afterwards

A small dressing covers the site. FNAC results usually in 24–48 hours; biopsy reports in a few days. Your doctor plans the next step.

We explain the procedure and take your written consent first. Small risks include bruising or bleeding at the site, infection, and — for samples near the lung — a small chance of air leak. Sometimes the sample is not enough to give an answer and the test has to be repeated or a biopsy advised.

Do interventions hurt?
A local anaesthetic is used before most procedures, so discomfort is minimal. Most procedures take 15–30 minutes, and samples go to our pathology lab for analysis.
