Ultrasound (USG) Preparation
Preparation depends on the scan — fast 6 hours for the upper abdomen, comfortably full bladder for pelvis and early pregnancy, nothing needed for most other scans. At Baddi, Nalagarh and Pinjore.
What to do for your type of scan
Abdomen (liver, gallbladder, kidneys, spleen, pancreas)
Fast for 6 hours (no food). No bladder filling is needed for the upper abdomen — a full bladder is only for pelvic and early pregnancy scans. (A gallbladder check especially needs fasting.)
Pelvis / Obstetric (pregnancy, uterus, ovaries, prostate)
Early pregnancy (up to about 12 weeks) and pelvic scans: comfortably full bladder — drink 3–4 glasses of water about an hour before. After 12 weeks: no bladder preparation needed. Transvaginal scans: empty bladder just before.
Thyroid, breast, scrotum, soft tissue
No preparation needed for thyroid, breast, scrotum and soft-tissue scans. Doppler of the neck, arms and legs needs no preparation; Doppler of the kidneys or abdominal vessels needs 6–8 hours fasting. For Doppler of leg vessels, comfortable loose clothing helps. Just arrive on time.
Not sure which rule applies? When you book, we tell you exactly — call +91 89504 54111. A full bladder means "comfortably full", not painfully full — drink water, don't overdo it.
Painless, radiation-free, 15–30 minutes
You lie on the examination couch; a gel is applied to the skin and the radiologist glides a probe over the area. That's it — no needles, no radiation, no recovery time.
- You can see the screen and ask questions during the scan
- For fetal scans, a family member can usually be present
- Reports ready in 30–60 minutes, same day always
