A snapshot of your heart's electricity
Ten small electrodes on your chest, arms and legs record the electrical impulses that make your heart beat — printed as the familiar wave tracing.
An ECG detects irregular rhythms, heart strain, previous heart attacks, and the effects of medicines. It's the first cardiac test in almost every evaluation — chest pain, palpitations, breathlessness, dizziness, or before surgery and employment medicals.
The test takes about 5 minutes and needs no preparation. The tracing is handed to you immediately; it is interpreted by our physician/consultant before the report is signed. Emergency tracings are read at once. We recommend keeping a copy of past ECGs to compare changes over time.
Please note: A normal resting ECG does not exclude coronary disease — your doctor decides if a stress test (TMT) is needed.
